About Geoff Decker
Hi, from Rhode Island.
I'm an award-winning writer, journalist, and consultant with 20 years experience writing about education, public policy, sports media, and communications.
In nearly 20 years as a professional writer, I can't think of a more powerful tool than asking questions. I've interviewed hundreds of people, from movie actors and sports celebrities to powerful politicians. My most memorable conversations are about learning, with students and adult coursetakers; parents and caretakers; teachers and faculty; researchers and policy makers.
Why interviews?
You don't need the polish of a 60 Minutes correspondent, the production set of an Oprah Winfrey exclusive, or the intimacy of a Terry Gross interview. You need curiosity, empathy, and active listening skills. Conversations have helped me break news, write impactful stories, and create high-quality content marketing strategies. As your college essay coach, I’ll bring a journalist's curiosity and objectivity to our conversations.

More about me.
I grew up and attended high school outside of Albany, New York. I attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Public Relations.
I lived most of my adult life in New York City, where I worked professionally as a freelance writer, education reporter, communications director, PR pro, and content marketing consultant.
New York is also where I met my wife, started our family, and graduated from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. I currently reside in Cranston, Rhode Island. My wife and I have two young children (ages 6 and 4). Being their father is what I love to do more than anything.
